One of the earliest flames, and a Prix Ars winner.
A geometric flame.
A flame's genetic code being edited with Apophysis. |
FlamesFlames are algorithmically generated images and animations based on software written by Scott Draves in 1992. The software, believed to be the first open-source visual art, has been incorporated into many commercial graphics programs and ported to most operating systems. Artists can create flames now with the Apophysis interactive designer for Windows, Qosmic for Linux, Oxidizer for Mac OS X, or using plug-ins for programs such as Photoshop and After Effects. The beauty of open source is that derivative work from the software created by Draves is now ubiquitous and global. |
